1. What does the District Attorneys Office do?

Answer: The Office of the District Attorney of the 33rd Judicial Disrtict, Allen Parish, Louisiana, handles both civil and criminal matters and it is by bar the largest law firm in the Disrict. Our office prosecutes all criminal activity occuring in the parish in the District Court and misdemeanors in Oakdale City Court. Civilly, our office represents and is the legal advisor for the Police Jury, School Board, and all other local political subdivisions in the parish other than the towns. [top]
 
2. What is the difference between a felony and a misdemeanor?

Answer: A misdemeanor is a crime that is punishable by a period of up to six months. A felony is a more serious crime that is punishable by a perios of imprisonment longer than a year. [top]
 
3. What is a subpoena?

Answer: A subpoena is an order directing you to be present at the time and place stated. [top]
 
4. Can I speak to the District Attorney or an assistant before my court apperance?

Answer: Yes call our office for an appiontment. If you are a defendent and have an attorney, the District Attorney's Office cannot communicate with you directly outisde the presence of your attorney. Please make arrangements with your attorney to speak with the District Attorney's Office. [top]
 
5. I think a crime has been commited. How do I press charges?

Answer: You should first contact a law enforcement agency such as you local police department or Sheriff's Office to report the crime. An investigator should be able to direct you on how to proceed. [top]

Answer: The District Attorney represents the people and the laws of the State of Louisiana. [top]
 
7. I want to drop charges. How do I?

Answer: You may contact our office to discusss your concerns. While your feelings will be considered, the District Attorney's Office may decide to prosecute any case in the best intrest of the State of Louisiana an in keeping with the ends of justice. [top]
