About Doug Hebert, Jr.
...
First elected in October, 1990, Doug was
re-elected to a second six year term in 1996 and has now served as
District Attorney for nearly 12 years. Doug attended McNeese State
University and received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Juris Doctor
degree from Louisiana State University and has practiced law for a
total of thirty three years. A native of Lake Charles, he became involved with Allen
Parish in 1975 while engaged in farming and ranching. He and Terry, his wife of
thirty-seven years, came to love the rural live style of Allen
Parish and relocated their family and law practice to Kinder in
1976. Doug and Terry
have five children and nine grandchildren.
Doug is currently serving as
president of the Louisiana District Attorney's Association and has
been a member of the board of directors for four years. In addition, he has been
selected to serve on several important commissions, including the
Integrated Criminal Justice Information Systems Commission, the
Louisiana Livestock Commission, and the advisory Commission for
Region V of the Department of Health and Hospitals. Under his leadership, the
Louisiana District Attorney's Association, working with the
Louisiana Legislature, has been responsible for implementation of
many significant legislative improvements to the criminal justice
system.
The Allen Parish District
Attorney's Office has long been recognized as one of the most
technologically advanced D. A.'s offices in the country and Doug has
conducted seminars on "Technology in the Courtroom" and office
automation. In 1995, a new office complex was constructed next to the
court house in Oberlin, the parish seat, for the District Attorney,
the first ever for the office, without using any tax revenue. Work will begin
shortly on an addition to the building. Branch offices are situated
in Oakdale and Kinder.
Since taking office in 1991, Doug
has initiated a number of new and enhanced programs to serve the
citizens of Allen Parish. These include the "Intervention or
Diversion" program, the "worthless check" division, a substance
abuse assessment and treatment program, and a "Victim and Witness
Assistance" program.
Doug is a member of many
professional and philanthropic organizations. He is a past Rotary
and Chamber of Commerce president, organized a youth baseball
league, serves on the board of "Special Olympics", and has been
actively involved with many youth livestock organizations and
